McDonalds has just announced that due to the humanitarian crises in Ukraine, they will be closing all of their stores in Russia, under consideration is whether to continue to pay their many Russian employees.

^ As of 1/01/2022 there were an estimated 847 McDonalds stores with approximately 62000 employees in Russia, according to Barton’s they are 84% corporate owned not franchises
This is among many major corporations suspending all economic activities in Russia as a result of Vladimir Putin launching an unnecessary war on Ukrain

I suspect that Shailynn's use of the term "credible" was meant to be sarcastic. That said, it's certainly believable, if not likely, that Russia will further limit internet access for a huge majority of its population.

The more difficult factor is that a lot of Russians have friends, relatives, and peers in Ukraine. A lot of news is entering Russia by direct means.

Likewise news is coming into Ukraine from non gov propaganda sources

It will suck (and not in a good way) for all of those Russian cam girls just trying to make a living.
Of course, I imagine the situation for the Ukrainian cam girls is much worse.

BBC had an article today about kids in Ukraine calling their parents in Russia to tell them about being shelled and shot at.

And Parents / Russian wouldn't believe it...

    Kinda sad.

Like these Q anon believers on freaking steroid, with the lies being pushed by state media, truth actually outlawed, and their families being actually killed in a war they don't believe is happening.

I feel it is a mistake for news and media to cut off Russia. It has been proven and verified that Russia has been lying to its population amd troops about the reason for invading Ukraine and the current conditions of the invasion. Without independent and western sources of information providing a more truthful and balanced reporting of the crisis, Russians will not know the truth. Slap Russian state media with a manipulated content warning or fact check, but don't deprive people of the only source of honest reporting

I also think it's a mistake for private businesses to close. How the hell does an iPhone or a Big Mac impact the invasion? A Russian shoe factory employee gets paid by revenue from Russians buying shoes, and pays for his Russian Big Mac which pays the hourly wage of a Russian cashier and Russian franchisee. Where the fuck ia the national security? Why are we putting the Russian cashier and cook out of work when they don't even know what's actually going on?

Uh just to clear the air I actually do lean right but I also will read news from left sites although I’m not on CNN or MSNBC much. I like Vice, it’s a lot of opinion there but I find it more credible than a bunch of other crap out there. I mean after all who isn’t interested on how the Taliban is wishing women a Happy Womens Day in Afghanistan this week.

Digital communications have played a huge role in this conflict, especially in getting the Ukrainian message out.

Touchy thing, Putin making nuclear threats. But it is kind of like how JFK dealt with the Cuban Crisis, a "Quarantine". Some have suggested a Western Ukraine NFZ, or one for humanitarian corridors.

I think Putin is wanting them to abandon Kiev.

Vice has a lot of reporters who aren't just sitting at a studio telling you what other people said...

They actually go into war zones and conflict areas.

But, shutting off Russia's Internet, you guys thinking it's best not to do that, keep them connected to try and spread the truth are missing a pretty fucking critical point.

IT'S RUSSIA CUTTING ITSELF OFF TO PREVENT OUTSIDE INFLUENCE!!!

    I mean, fuck, really?

The significance of McDonalds closing stores multiplied by Starbucks following suit, directly corelates to the OPs point that Russia is closing the internet so that ordinary Russian citizens can't get information about what Mr. Putin is doing in their name, with so many western businesses closing, the word is getting out, despite Mr. Putin's best efforts to keep a lid on information.

The Thai prison bitch misses the point by trying to make it seem like other are missing the point. He is redefining what it means to be a tool. A Thai Ladyboy inmate's tool.

This is going to hurt the Russian people - as they are unable to view non-Russian news. It sucks how Russia seems to have turned into a large scale version of North Korea in a short time.

I guess the Russian cybercriminals will have special access - so they can keep hacking to hurt western banks and utilities?

You gotta feel bad for many Russians, is this conflict shedding light that Russians are treated more like Chinese citizens or even North Koreans?

I imagine a Russian commoners life isn't all that great, and now they can't even get a Starbucks or a Fish Fillet from McDonalds. Man if this was happening in America Subraman would lose his mind!
  • rickthelion

Whatever. Nobody wants bad coffee and a fish sandwich with cum on it. Yeah, they call it frickin’ tartar sauce but you know there is some kid in the back of the McD’s jackin’ it into the Filet-o-fish bucket.

My question is this: will this war result in an interruption in the supply of pornography focusing on pretty Russian chicks getting assfucked? That could hurt the gurlymen who need to watch that shit in order to feel anything.

Hell, it might even limit the “tartar sauce” supply for American Filet-o-fish sammys. Think about it. ROAR!!!

^ you’d have to ask Icee, I believe he works at McDonalds or Burger King although I’ve heard they won’t let him run the cash register because he can’t count high enough to make change.

The Russian common folks who I feel bad for are the folks who now must deal with the plumbing systems - as the Russian versions of CrazyJoe are now clogging toilets all over the country! Before they had a known (McDonalds) location to destroy with explosive shits. Now they will be cluster bombing public toilets all over!

"You gotta feel bad for many Russians, is this conflict shedding light that Russians are treated more like Chinese citizens or even North Koreans?"

There's already been a lot of wild stories about this conflict (ghost of kiev ace fighter) so I wouldn't be shocked if the prevailing story that everyday Russians and even Russian soldiers are in the dark about the war against Ukraine is totally false.
