'Reichstag moment': Joint Chiefs chairman feared Trump was laying groundwork for coup
WASHINGTON – The highest-ranking U.S. officer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, and other top military leaders made informal plans to stop a coup by former President Donald Trump and his allies in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, according to excerpts from a new book
"I Alone Can Fix It," written by Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, describes how Milley and others feared Trump might take unconstitutional actions should he lose. CNN first reported on this excerpt.
The top brass was so disturbed by Trump's rhetoric casting doubt on the legitimacy of the election before it was held that the leaders discussed contingency plans for how to thwart any illegal power grabs by the president, including how and when to resign in protest over his actions.
"They may try, but they're not going to f****** succeed," Milley told his officers, according to Leonnig and Rucker. "You can't do this without the military. You can't do this without the CIA and the FBI. We're the guys with the guns."
Milley's spokesman, Army Col. Dave Butler, declined Thursday to comment on the excerpts.

It was when Trump pulled the troops off of that spot on the Turkey Syrian border, as a favor to Putin and Erdogan, that everyone came to distrust him. This would be the first time I had ever heard Mark Esper or Mark Milley, but they spoke to the nation and calmed us down.
Turkey was using its Nato issued artillery and firing at Kurdish civilians, as US troops were retreating under fire, and as Russians were moving their tanks in.
After that, everyone knew that Trump was a loose cannon.

There was no attack coming!
People also lost confidence in Trump when he threatened to strike holy sites in Iran. The US does not do things like that. And it violates international law and it violates US law.
Trump needed to have his mouth duct taped shut. As it was, responsible people like Mark Esper and Mark Milley tried to do what they legally could to mitigate the damage.

The lawsuit from Alexander Vindman, who testified in 2019 impeachment proceedings about a phone call in which Trump pressed his Ukraine counterpart to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, was filed Wednesday in federal court in Washington. Trump was impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate in February 2020.
The suit names as defendants Donald Trump Jr.; Rudy Giuliani, a longtime Trump adviser who has served as Trump's lawyer; and former White House communications officials Dan Scavino and Julia Hahn.

Miley is nothing more than an attention whore. Several months back he was telling anyone who would listen how he acted to protect the nuclear arsenal in the event of a Presidential meltdown. Now he's bragging about how he stood in the way of a military coup.
in neither case was Miley responding to any identified attempt by the President to do either of those things. So in essence Miley was responding to problems that only existed in his imagination.

Stephanie Murphy (born Đặng Thị Ngọc Dung; September 16, 1978) is a politician serving as the U.S. representative for Florida's 7th congressional district since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she defeated incumbent Republican John Mica in 2016. The district includes much of downtown and northern Orlando, as well as all of Winter Park, Maitland, Sanford, and Altamonte Springs.
Murphy was born in 1978 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, before leaving the country with her family in 1979. After growing up in Northern Virginia, Murphy attended the College of William & Mary and Georgetown University. Before becoming a member of Congress, she worked as a national security specialist at the United States Department of Defense, an executive at Sungate Capital, and a business professor at Rollins College.
Murphy is the first Vietnamese-American woman, first Vietnamese-American Democrat, and the second Vietnamese-American overall (after Republican South Vietnam-born Joseph Cao of Louisiana) to be elected to Congress.[1]
On December 20, 2021, Murphy announced that she will not run for reelection to a fourth term in 2022.[2]
