tj border crossing

crossing into Mexico is very little problem. Crossing back into the United States IS a problem. The border patrol is not staffing the facilities as they should. unless you’re walking across with global entry/sentri you could be waiting for hours. I waited over five hours when riding back north with a friend that did not have global entry. I told him next time he can drive by himself and I will walk across with my global entry and meet him on the other side. I could’ve stayed in HK over four hours longer on that one particular visit.

darn good idea to have your passport with you when you cross into Mexico. if you’re walking the Mexican customs will want to see it. And more than likely you’ll have to fill out a FMM for Mexico entry. from what I understand they’ve gone back to a free FMM for visits seven days or less. if you wish you can buy a 180 day FMM for $30 from the Mexican authorities. with a 180 FMM that allows you to walk in the Mexican citizens line through customs. driving across into Mexico they very rarely ever check for an FMM or passport. Crossing back into the United States a US passport is handy but not required for usa citizens. (but you probably will be sent to secondary.)

Have you tried to use the services from coyotes? They can get you across the border in one of their tunnels in less than 30 minutes.

in my experience crossing the mexican border a passport card functions the same as a passport book when walking (or driving).

entering the usa i have global entry and simply walk to the head of the line on the Mexican side (no matter how long the line might be on the Mexican side)... and show my global entry card at the border line to the usa border patrol agent and walk into the big building staying to the right to the ‘sentri’ booth(s).

99.9% of the time my wait with global entry is never more than a minute or two.
