Kay Redfield Jamison is an American clinical psychologist whose work has centered on bipolar disorder. **As a young adult, Jamison herself was diagnosed as bipolar.** She prefers manic-depressive disorder as more descriptive of her own experience with it.
Ending her first book about her own experience she bluntly said that if she could only experience the manic high she would never take meds. It is only because the highs eventually are followed by deeply depressive lows during which she was actively suicidal that she stays on her meds. Wonder if Kanye experiences depressive lows and self-destructive thoughts.
She recounted a visit to a London bookstore when she was 'manic and psychotic'. Jamison bought an entire shelf of books published by Penguin because she explained penguins are birds who need to belong to a flock.

Kim Kardashian is asking for compassion and empathy as her husband, rap mogul Kanye West, and their family deal with his recent behavioral outbursts that have called his mental health into question.
West, 43, accused the E! reality star of trying to lock him up this week after he criticized her at a campaign rally and in a flurry of tweets on Monday. Kardashian took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday morning to remind followers that West has bipolar disorder, a lifelong mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs and lows.
Though West has publicly refuted his diagnosis, Kardashian asked people to be sensitive to those who struggle with mental health issues."
