Whats with the towel in Toronto clubs

Work took me to Toronto this month and have been exploring some local clubs.
So far nothing interms of follies mileage.
One strange thing I notice is before the lapdance the stripper places a towel on ur lap. That was weird and strange to me.
Is this some sort of a local law or something

I've seen it done with a fleece blanket in the Midwest. Mostly cause your jeans ribs their junk raw.
