I can’t speak for the collective group here - but I believe that folks are giving this other guy shit because of the speed with which his posts moved from reasonable to over the top.

@cram: the difference is that misogyny involves associating inferiority with being a female. i am not saying there is no difference between misogyny and joking, but rather that there is something called "misogynistic jokes" that exists, in the same way that there are non misogynistic jokes which exist.

how you differentiate between a misogynistic vs non misogynistic joke is whether or not it entails the association of inferiority with women. In the wives post, misogynistic jokes were made as some associated the label of inferiority with being female, as displayed by the joke about housewife, etc. The misogynistic nature of such a remark can be further been proven by the nature of the joke itself; in the sense that what precisely made it funny was the DIRECT ASSOCIATION of inferior, as conveyed by the term housewife, with the wife(a female)..otherwise..why would it have been funny in the first place? It clearly conveyed some attachment of inferior with female. And clearly, associating the idea of "inferior' and therefore " a lesser human" with anyone is disrespectful.

A few days ago someone pointed out how if you go on a particular womens board for dancers you'd see a fair amount of what appeared to be locker room talk about what bags of crap men are. As I recall the feline defense of this behaviour had something to do with venting and locker room talk.
