This stinks. BJ’s, as described in the article, is about as tame of a strip club as can be. It’s just a pleasant place to have a beer, shoot some pool and maybe watch some naked ladies strip. Going back to the 1980s, the “pioneering work” at the U of M by professors McKinnon and Dworkin led to the notion that men’s interest in the naked female body was inherently evil and had to be stamped out in order to protect women. So the solution was to throw women out of work.
Also, BJ’s is located in an old industrial area of north Minneapolis with some low level commercial mixed in. It’s the exact place where one would think the city would want a strip club to be located. Even a whore house here wouldn’t bother anyone.
But Minneapolis has long proven that neither tolerance nor diversity matters so long as the intolerance is of the right bad guys, fictitious as the bad guys are. Further, Minneapolis has an inferiority complex and goes to great length to seem big time. So the city likes to project an image that reflects an urbane, upscale, advant look that is shiny and exciting to...I dunno, a few hipsters maybe. Sigh.
