For the entire country we run around 300 parricides a year. Its about 2% of the homicide rate. Far more than those who fall prey to psycho-sexual serial killers, but far less than than the numbers for parents who kill their own children.
I my opinion parricide is grossly under reported on.

According to Paul Mones, most of what we now know about familial child abuse comes from the case of Richard Jahnke, a high school student who in 1982 Cheyenne Wyoming shot his father dead.
Richard would go on to get pardoned by the Governor, a Republican former Attorney General with impeccable law and order credentials. She noted that she received thousands of letters, but the one which most moved her was from a man in his 80's who explained that as an adolescent he came very close to killing his father.
