Mississippi head football coach Hugh Freeze resigned effective immediately over calls made to an escort agency in Florida using a university phone.

Thoughts?

Would any of you be fired if your business found out you were calling an escort service?

If you are using company property on company time for sexual services, you deserve to be fired. You also have a problem. As a head coach of a state football team, you're a complete imbecile for doing so.

When I worked for a large building controls company, we once had a field technician use an onsite computer used for monitoring fire and life safety systems to log into Playboy.com. We had his final check waiting for him by the time he returned to the office.

The phone call to the escort was just the cherry on top. The NCAA violations at Ole Miss are supposedly so bad that he was not expected to survive as head coach.

Sinclair - Very true, his blaming of former coach Houston Nutt for the violations actually led to this find. Nutt's attorney asked for phone records and this was discovered.

What a dumbass. He could have been screwing as many coeds as he wanted. Or just hire one to be your fucktoy like Bobby Petrino. He seems to be doing OK job-wise.

CP - As the head coach of a Div. 1 football team, you have to know better. I've heard many good things about the man. He just made a very poor judgment for a man in his position.

That's why I'm happy being "decently well off" in a mostly anonymous job rather than filthy rich in some type of high profile job.

I mean, what's the point of making millions a year if you can't spend it on hookers or strippers? (Well, other than basketball players that hit the strip club after getting knocked out of playoffs. They don't get fired, they get raises.)

I can't say I'm the brightest person ever, but when I travel I carry 2 laptops or 1 laptop and an iPad. I never look at anything I shouldn't on my company issued equipment. Does anyone give a shit at my company? Hell no, but you never know... and I don't want to be taken down for something as stupid as viewing porn or making a phone call somewhere I shouldn't.

I'm guessing he signed an "appropriate use" agreement when getting access to university technology. If so, he knew the rules.

shailynn: Exactly. Football coaches phones are actively monitored by a compliance officer to make sure he is following NCAA regulations with respect to the number of contacts he can make with high school recruits. To use THE SAME FUCKING PHONE to call escorts is the ultimate act of hubris, thinking that his position as an SEC head coach makes him untouchable. How does he not simply get a Cricket burner and use that for his extra-curricular activities?

@shailynn as the person who used to (and sometimes still am) be responsible for installing and monitoring the software and firewalls that did all that activity monitoring, I can tell you most companies didn't give a crap what you did unless
1) you weren't producing, in which case the logged activity was just a convenient way to fire your ass. If you were an anonymous rockstar, then we'd just purge the logs.

OR

2) your activity would be an embarrassment to the company. In that case, we did "counseling", and not the kind you think. Again, if you were a rockstar the company didn't care what you did, they just wanted to make sure you didn't get caught. So, at one place, I had to train one of the executive secretaries how to buy burner phones and then it was her job to take money from petty cash and walk down to the store once a month to pay the bills. Ain't corporate America great.

Serious amateur hour move there coach. Umm...ever heard of a trap phone ?!?! Seriously for someone in the public light to use a traceable personal phone is like an invitation to any scumbag to shake or take you down. You have to have that basic firewall in place.

So while I dissaprove of his method I have no issues with his motivation. Sucks we live in a society that shames people for a basic human need.

Joc - it doesn't surprise me a company would do such a thing. It happens with athletes all the time. Look at Ezekiel Elliott right now. if he was a run of the mill running back who was easily replaced, he would have been cut for his issues.

I don't have a problem with this guy wanting a piece of ass on the side, that's been him and his wife, if he's married. What I can't stand is when hypocrites like this pretend to be holier than thou, getting all religious in press conferences and interviews, talking about God and family, blah, blah, blah, when they're no better than the rest of us. Glad he was exposed.

@JAprufrock: Exactly. Check out this guy's twitter feed before it gets deleted. Filled with Biblical quotes pious sayings. Well, stupid is as stupid does. Because he was such a dumbass, it cost him $12 million ($2 million this year, and $5 mil more in 2018 & 2019 each).

I don't look at Twitter cp, but if he was doing that, it's definitely fucked up. He is married, has been since '92. That's 25 years down the drain.

Now the question is, Did he throw his marriage & career away over a slag (like Tiger Woods) or was she at least hot? I expect someone to unearth the escort in question within the next 24 hours.

Most public entity universities don't actively monitor internet usage because faculty will revolt as an infringement of their academic freedom. BUT, the use of a university owned phone creates an itemized bill, and that document in most cases is a PUBLIC RECORD subject to release, depending on their state statutes. I agree with CP, this guy could have prevented all of his pain and loss with a $20 burner phone.

azdd - Agreed.

CP - I guarantee she wasn't hot.

That might have been the single most expensive piece of ass in the state of Mississippi's history, considering how much it will end up costing this ass-clown.

Lay low for a while and come back. Greg Anthony got caught in a sting and is back at work. Hard to get a piece in the bible belt i imagine.
