Papa Roach - Forever (Live)

Usually this kind of a song would be in the key of D, the most etherial or introspective of the keys. Think for example of the Red Hot Chile Peppers.
Here, the link to get to this says Forever is in D minor. Sounds right to me.

Here it says that they are dropping the lowest guitar string from E down to D.

and this, with the lyrics

Using D minor would mean the key signature and scale of F Major, and so the major triads would be on C and Bb, and the Diminished on E, and then minor triads on A, D, and G.
Yes, what above shows for the lyrics does not conflict with this at all. Completely diatonic. Its just that minor mode and that key of D do have an etherial sound.
Notice also that the opening bass line in the studio recording is simpler, really needing that drop down to D tuning.

last commentYes, listening more to this, and reading the lyrics and chords, I get a better feel for it.

So they lead with Dm, so they say it is in the key of D minor. But this means the F major scale.
So then for F major, you have dominant C and subdominant Bb.
"The gentlest transition in western music is from the tonic to the subdominant."
And so yes, even though it is in D minor, you still hear the F major dynamics.
One place the tabs say D, instead of Dm. Likely a typo. But they also often say Em. To stay diatonic it would have to be Edim. Not sure if it is a typo, but I am not hearing anything diatonic. dim triads are distinctive, but so is the introduction of something not diatonic. And then we never really know who makes these tabs, the we have to take them with a grain of salt.
Anyway, it makes sense, you get a feel for it by listening and looking at various written forms. Mostly 4 chords, one of them minor.
