Another attorney makes the news.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A City of Charleston public defender spent the night in jail after a stripper accused him of assaulting her during a VIP dance early Friday morning.

According to police, attorney Jason Mikell, 36, is charged with third-degree assault and battery and indecent exposure for the alleged events at Stilettos. He was released on a personal recognizance bond Friday afternoon.

The 40-year-old exotic dancer told police Mikell physically assaulted her and exposed himself while she performed a dance for him.

According to the victim, Mikell bought a 30-minute private dance in the club's VIP room, and when they entered the room he almost immediately became aggressive. Five minutes later, he was reportedly punching her in the head, she added.

The woman said there were no other witnesses in the room but surveillance cameras do monitor the room, and that's what police viewed when they arrived a short time later.

The victim was taken to Medical University Hospital for treatment.

Police said Mikell is not appearing as a public defender in any cases, and his contract is being reviewed. The city will make a decision on his contract pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to the City of Charleston, Mikell started his contract in September 2010 and is paid per jury trial term. In 2015, that amount has been just over $34,000. City officials said Marybeth Mullaney has substituted for Mikell in the past when he was unavailable.

Mikell was held overnight in the Al Cannon Detention Center, but was released on a personal recognizance bond after a court hearing Friday afternoon.

Always negotiate what happens in the VIP before you go. You'd think a lawyer would know that.
