Your out of town and find yourself in an area without a quality strip club (or non at all for that matter), and you've got an itch that just needs to be scratched. After a quick search of the Internet, though, you find that there are a couple of AMPS locally and several escorts available. Knowing about what AMPS charge for an hour and a few calls you find out the escorts are about the same, which do you go with?

So while many of the women are too old, some of them are not. You can shop until you find one you like.
Likewise via window shopping you can chat the girl up some and find out if she is someone you can relate to and also let her get to know you some. This will always make it easier for her and it will make the session better. You are flirting with her without having committed.
AAMPs are like AMPs except they are in apartments and so their is no window shopping, so they are intended to compete with Escorts. The 'service level' is higher. But without window shopping you can't screen the girls and you can't play with her a bit and get her off script before committing.
So I say AMPs. But what is available will vary depending on your area.

And personally, it's pretty much of a mood thing: sometimes I want a decent massage with some extras, sometimes I just want the extras.
To clarify, you know you can ask a dancer for a massage or "extras" even though an AMP offers the best massage and and escort offers the best sex. You can also ask an MT or escort for a lap dance. Is it going to be better that what a dancer offers, no, but you can have some pre-game activity with the knowledge that extras are assured and that is could cost less than the champagne room.
The trick is that the AMP or escort needs to know you, and that takes a few visits. After that you can request all types of things. You can get a few laps from mamasan AND the MT once they know you. You just have to go in with a big smile and a nice attitude. For an escort just have her straddle you with you underwear on and grind a it, assuring her that it's just for a bit of fun. Later you can try other dance positions. Best part is you can get to the main event whenever you want and you know your going to get extras!
So you answer your question, yes I will go to an AMP or "escort" if not SC is near by. They know me, so it's not hard to get some SC laps in. And now that your blinders are off go have some good times no matter where you are!
Now as far as AMPs, I've done a whole bunch of sessions from Thanksgiving up until now, and although the girls are quite capable, very little actual massaging occurred. Some people do it with this Massage plus Happy Ending script. But I try to get the girl off script right away, and so it does become more like an Escort session, or even like a civilian first date.
I mean if the girl can see that I am putting a lot of energy into checking her out and chatting her up and seemingly screening her, then she knows this means more to me than just a Happy Ending. These girls can be charmed, and they love it when you try.
But there are different types and quality levels of AMPs. A while back I was checking out cities on the West side of Texas ( excluding El Paso ). So while Houston has lots of great SC's and lots of San Francisco quality AMP's, many of these cities on the West side have little or nothing. So when you find that there are no SC's, the AMP situation might not be much better.
Now San Francisco and San Jose might be exceptions, limited in terms of the number of SC's, and so they are not competitive, but overwhelming in terms of AMP's, and so they are very competitive.
AMP's and their women are a special culture and an acquired taste. I understand this, and actually my own social and emotional development has been greatly influence by them. I got from these women what I did not get in adolescence or in my college years, and what was lacking in my marriage. So now I am pushing it even further.
Now about Escorts, I think it worth considering the experiences of Mr. Rick Dugan. If I am reading him correctly, he used to patronize Escorts, finding them via things like Craig's List.
But he did not find consistent quality and he did not always feel comfortable with it. And so he took to waiting discretely in the hotel lobbies to scope out the women when they came in, and especially to see who they were with.
But eventually he found that he could go to SC's and, by using his System, find dancers who were very happy to be his Escort. I think this makes perfect sense. SC's can be appreciated ITC, or via Take Out. But no matter which, it is better because you have a face to face meeting. This is what Mr. Dugan's System is about, how to engage with them and how to relate to them. I believe that he is actually quite charming when he is with them. I don't go along with @Dougster's criticism that it is just "paying a hooker for sex". No, Mr. Dugan is setting up a more complicated relationship, and this is why it is better than just calling an Escort.
Now when Red Book was running in the Bay Area you had a very high standard for accurate pictures and ads, and for consistent business practices. So you had many very high quality SC's and AAMP's to choose from. There was a very high probability that when you knocked on the door, it would be opened by a girl who was the one in the pictures and who was psyched up to give an outstanding delivery to even a first timer.
But now, with RedBook gone, and in places which never had something with such a continuous community of reviewers, I would pass on any venue where you are expected to commit before a face to face meeting.
So it would be SC's or AMP's, and if not these, then I'll be reading a book or talking on the phone to the women I expect to have waiting for me in various places.
And I am planning to be making business trips across the country, so this is not just an intellectual interest or a fantasy

If it were by the former, why not practice Mr. Dugan's System and just go to an SC and find a dancer willing to be your escort? F2F first meetings should yield higher quality results.
Back when San Francisco Red Book was running, with explicit terminology and individual reviews coming from a community of long term members, the results with Escorts and AAMPs were very good. You could call the number and the door would be opened by the girl who was in the pictures and she would give excellent delivery. But without Red Book, I am not so sure.
So today you can just go to an SC or an AMP. You can enjoy on site as you wish. But then you can invite your girl to see out outside too.
