When a woman who worked at a Lexington strip club fainted Thursday night from a pre-existing medical condition, a fellow male employee allegedly sexually abused her, according to police and court documents.

The 37-year-old woman, who worked at Fillies Gentleman's Club, 987 Winchester Road, was listed in critical condition early Friday and was placed on life support at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, said Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts. Roberts said she did not know what the woman's job was at the strip club.

Clyde Wesley Sexton, 71, has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse. Sexton, who was being held in the Fayette County jail on a $5,000 bond, was arraigned Friday in Fayette District Court. He pleaded not guilty and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 30.

According to documents filed in Fayette District Court, Sexton was a handyman at Fillies and was a friend of the woman he is accused of assaulting.

Just before midnight Thursday, Roberts said, detectives executed a search warrant at the Fillies Gentleman's Club, where Lexington Fire Department emergency medical services had been called to help an unresponsive woman about 6 p.m.

Portions of the alleged offense were recorded by security cameras, according to Fayette District Court records. In an interrogation, Sexton admitted to fondling the victim, records say.

"The victim has some pre-existing medical conditions and fainted and became unresponsive. During the time that she was unresponsive, the suspect performed various sexual acts on her," Roberts said.

Roberts said she could not say why the woman was in critical condition, saying that was a "medical question."

Police did not identify the woman Friday morning.

No one answered the telephone Friday morning at Fillies, and strip club managers could not otherwise be reached.
