The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/11Ucc8u) that Councilman Alex Wan's legislation failed by a 9 to 6 vote on Monday night.
Audience members in the packed council chamber erupted in applause at the vote, including dozens of Club Onyx employees who have actively opposed the legislation since it was introduced earlier this year.
Some council members cited concerns that forcing the clubs to move would push them to other communities. Other members shared discomfort with phasing out previously-granted zoning uses.

Several years ago the same government officials tried to get a landmark drive in restaurant in the same area as the clubs to give up one of the entrances it had used since the 60's. It was a stupid use of govt. power and the restaurant (Varsity,Jr.) said no, it would close up before doing that. The city would not budge and the place shut their doors. It was one of the busiest places in the area. The city lost a lot of tax revenue, residents lost a great place to eat, and the building is now an ugly eyesore. Maybe some of those residents who were so anxious to evict the strip club should have spent their energy to save their landmark eating place. I am sure they are not pleased with the way it looks now.
It’s wonderful when strippers are so politically involved – they should be an inspiration to us all
