The Alcohol Beverage Control Administration has shut down Rumorz Showbar in Weirton pending a hearing on their investigation into the club. All of this comes just days after six people were arrested at the club for charges related to prostitution.
Over the weekend, police arrested Megan Bishop, Mariah Aloe, Amber Baker, James Mason, Shane Busic and Tony Cammel on various charges related to prostitution.
"The ABC commission did an investigation into the matter, and during their investigation, they found what they believed to be illegal activity," said Vince Gurrera, city attorney.
Dianna Calandros works nearby and doesn't agree with the closing of the club.
"No kids hang down here. It's mainly adults. They don't open until the evening around five and like I said it's mainly adults. How you spend your money is your business the way I figure it," Calandros said.
A sign outside of the club advertises an "after Jambo party,†but officials said that will not be happening. For now, the building remains closed until the city holds a public nuisance hearing later this month.
"You have council sitting as the judges in the case. They city would present its allegations which we would gather from police investigation and what the ABC has investigated," Gurrera said.
At the public nuisance hearing, the owner of the club and the ABCA will have the opportunity to present their facts. The city will then have the choice to close the bar, reprimand the club, or pass to take no action toward the establishment.
No matter what, the ABCA will still have the ability to shut the bar down if it chooses.
