The majority of these sites are a waste of time and money. Myself and everyone I have actually talked to says either the profiles are fakes posted by the website owner, the profiles are fakes by scammers trying to get your money, or the people never become your friends. It's your money, your time, it's up to you.
I tried it once and I was able to meet real people. I believe the only way to ever meet anyone there is to get in a group and hope you all have some sort of meeting somewhere. Of course, the meeting ended up being at the local porn shop across the interstate from one of the clubs I go to. It was a waste of time and not what I was looking for.
Tried it last month for 1 month. Every girl that "wanted to meet" would send me 1 line replies to messages. My opinion is the website employs people to pretend they are real so the monthly's keep billing. They pick zip codes near you so my 1st clue was 5-6 woman from a town nearby with a population of 2500 wanted to "meet me for some fun"
I've been on AFF for a few years and have had a fair amount of luck. I've had to travel alot for work the last few years, so I used AFF to find people to 'hang out' with wherever I was going. But your luck will vary by location. The bigger cities will have a larger pool of women, so better odds. If you live in a small town, I don't reccomend it, unless you like to travel. There are alot of fakes on the site, but they are getting better at weeding them out when they find them. A few hints: Completely fill out your profile. Don't BS or lie about yourself. Be careful with pictures. And don't be surprised when you get emails from alot of gay guys.
And watch out for the 'couples' profiles that are actually just one person. Usually a guy looking to step out on his wife.
On December 23, the stock of Snap Interactive (STVI.OB) was trading at 18 cents a share. Then Bloomberg wrote a story about how its Facebook dating app is clobbering the likes of Match.com. Five days later, the stock is trading at $1.20.
I find those sites a waste of time. In 2002 I did happen to meet two women off yahoo. Both were weirdos and one was such a blimp I still I cant believe I took that out to dinner while she dished me. Strip Clubs much better! I have tried Ashely Madison and its a waste of time.
I think it's probably a great site. I see faces of pretty young women right here in my home town just waiting to meet me. Funny thing though, I live in a rural town of just a few hundred people and I've never seen anyone like them anywhere. Kinda makes me say Hmmmmm!
was a paying member of AFF for over a year. during that time, I joined a couple of groups, went to some 'meet and greets', and did not see one woman at any of them I'd have sex with if someone offered to pay me to! maybe for a woman it would be different, after all, a huge pool of horny guys available at nearly any time, and all you have to do is sort through them. for guys, it's a 150% waste of time, IMHO.
I think one free profile on one of those sites got moved to another site without me doing anything. All of a sudden the other day I started getting emails from more girls wanting to send me messages or view their naked pics or meet me. Why? I have no idea, I only filled in the minimum profile information on any free registration. I always thought it was to get me to pay the subscription fee to be able to read all these messages. I have wondered if females can send and receive messages for free but I never investigated that far. I never got that interested in paying money to just read messages. I find it suspicious that a bunch of good looking girls would be trying to hook up with someone with hardly any profile information.
shark,
odds are, if you'd answered any of those ads, your next "recommended" stop would have been a site where you could see tons of nude photos of good-looking women...if you were willing to hand over your credit card # and sign up for a "service" fee every month. when I had an account on AFF, most days I'd have to clear out several of these that had ended up in my inbox, all scams in the end.
I would recommend Match.com instead. I haven't used it myself by I've heard from people who have that it works fairly well for meeting chicks off-line...better then free services like Okcupid and PlentyofFish anyways (which I've had some success with) If a girl agrees to meet you offline then it's a guaranteed lay since she must have already have a good deal of attraction to you. You just have to not fuck it up by acting weird.
AFF reminds me of the Intimate Encounters section for Craiglist if you are a male looking for a female...it's 99% all spam bots. However, if you look at the "platonic" or even "dating" section then it's a bit bitter. Most women wouldn't want to post up a profile on a page that's only geared towards sex since it would be admitting to themselves that they are a slut.

Can't be *that* badd. Not without pictures to prove it, anyway. :)
