Someone at a UK investment bank got fired after a Bloomberg terminal training session yesterday.
Apparently during the part of the session when the bankers were learning how to use the "help" button, he typed questions like:
"Where is a good strip club?"
"Where's the nearest place to Canary Wharf to buy porn?"
The bad news: Bloomberg told the bank what he asked, and he was fired, according to This is London.
The good news: the banker asked more than one question, so the Bloomberg specialist who answers the IM conversation that is prompted by the "help" button must have been helpful or he would have given up after just one. So FYI if you have a Bloomberg terminal at home, they can help you with stuff like that. Also, his or her name wasn't released.

last commentSome companies don't have any sense of humor and have policies in place about things of a sexual nature. Even where I work at, many technical terms are now getting automatically blocked when searching for products online. It makes it harder to find the products I need because companies are being too strict. Did you know the term stripper is also a technical term used in a variety of other (manufacturing or service mainly) applications where an item is being removed from another item?
When words like bag or sack get blocked automatically and you see sexual content blocked when you know there isn't any, the business world is only hurting themselves. I was looking for business products only. Big businesses don't trust their workers anymore. I'm not even sure why not. I understand porn sites getting blocked but blocking individual words is a step too far in my opinion.

You can still have humor without resorting to anything of a sexual nature. For instance during training on some new computer software that was going to be installed at all divisions, the instructor boldly asked us to see if we could crash the software. After a few seconds, I was on a debug screen and asked the instructor if I changed the program, if that would cause any problems. Maybe that's not the funniest example but I thought it was funny at the time.

They got the story all wrong. The reason this guy got fired is that London investment bankers are supposed to already know where the good strips clubs are, along with the best places to buy porn, hire prostitutes and score coke. The loser was obviously unqualified for his position.
