Underground Strip Clubs

Dudester
Back in the 1990's, I heard about these places, but never been. I found the following while surfing. I imagine most of us would avoid this kind of place, but I wonder if anyone has ever been to such a place?

I remember reading a biography on Bill Gates. He went to Harvard for one year before dropping out. During his time at Harvard, he used to frequent the Combat Zone, an underground adult entertainment district.

"during his years in college, Gates rarely dated
however, he liked to frequent Boston’s notorious Combat Zone, with its porn shows, strip joints, and prostitutes"

Years ago underground illegal "after hours" clubs featured gambling, strippers and drinks. They usually came to life after midnight as the crowd starting leaving straight establishments. Called "blind pigs" these clubs were once the mainstay of late night early morning entertainment in Detroit. A heavy police raid on a "blind pig" one hot steamy July night triggered the 1967 Detroit riot.

CORRECTION ON COMBAT ZONE IN BOSTON -- I have been there. Itwas NOT underground. It may or may not harbor underground clubs - but the COMBAT ZONE, in the eighties and nineties, was simply the raunchy entertainment district. By the time I got there, in the nineties, it had become highly regulated. Clear rules about touching, etc., posted on every table at every establishment.

There are a couple of clubs - one in Philadelphia, one in Newark, that I would characterize as "underground" from the reviews I have seen on TUSCL.

I dunno that anyone ever said that the old Combat Zone was "underground". Anyway, from what I understand, the heyday of these type of clubs in the NYC area is in the past at this point.

Mr. Guy -- not that it really matters, but one of the other posters did say, "he used to frequent the Combat Zone, an underground adult entertainment district."

BTW I watched the video and thought it was pretty ho-hum.

Gatorfan probably had the best line about underground clubs "Do I need a shovel to find one?" Wish I had thought of that.

way back in 1989 till 1993 a buddy of mine owned an old farm house.we set up private parties.at first we had three ladies that danced for anywhere from 10 to 20 guys every wed. and fri.you pay $20 to get in and $3 draft beers no hard liquar.ladies danced till the tips stopped.the ladies made 200 to 400 and he would make out pretty good too.no prostitution went on in the house.it was ran really good for along time.at one point there was 9 ladies and about 100 people.you had to know one of the orignal guys to get invited.we had tickets and everything.my buddy died of a heart attack and it all ended and nobody picked it up again.all the ladies started working at the local club stripping.we had some good times.

Yeah arbeeguy, you are right... I just read his biography and I think it mentioned you take a subway to get there. I have not been there myself though, thanks for the correction.
