Thanks for the memories, ss1. I'd been to 9 of the T40, as of Dec 2001, been to a couple of "new" ones since then. Things change, what with some clubs going out of business, rising or falling in ratings, etc.

Only ten reviews got Houston Gold the top spot? The manager and bartender could do that in a weekend!

It would be interesting to compare the current top 40 clubs(by ratings) to this 12/01 list, and evaluate the changes. Lots has changed in the SC business during the ensuing years; lots has changed for most of us as well. Time has certainly flown by - that list was after 9/11...
I was an ASS-C lurker back in those days. I did manage to visit 9 of the '01 T40, and ShotDisc is the only name familiar to me. I didn't start hanging out regularly at TUSCL until after '01 tho.

I don't remember when I found TUSCL. I do remember the chat discussion area was wild and nothing but flame wars between anonymous posters.

Wow, the Blue Moon Lounge was #32?!? That place is basically a dump! I know #33 Matthew's is closed now. Mac's Two Gold Club is a pretty nice place...relatively low mileage though.

The only time I went to the #3 ranked place, Jakes in Coates, Minnesota, it was a wonderful time. Sadly, it has long since closed up. I couldn't even remember the name of the place until this post popped up.
The only other one I went to in the Top 40 is Big Earl's Goldmine, listed there as Saylorville Township, IA, but, for all purposes, Des Moines. That was probably when they had their old setup, where the stage took up half the room, which made for the most overcrowded strip club I ever went to, except for possibly the Out House in Lawrence, Kansas. I know at some point, they had a fire, though I don't remember when. The first HJTC I got was there. It's sad, but that place has fallen off a cliff, because mostly, they want to sell you on the overpriced VIP. That listing does remind me I should attempt a trip to the Des Moines clubs soon, since I haven't been there since 2008.
From the most reviewed list, I find it surprising Daisy Dook's in Davenport, Iowa is there. I didn't know people in general knew back then strip clubs existed in Iowa.

I tried to look up the club from Troy, Ohio and it is no longer listed on tuscl. I did find this article from doing a google search:
Police Use College Intern As Undercover Stripper
State liquor control agents in Ohio stole the identity of a Cincinnati woman using her driver's license and Social Security number to establish a fake identity for a college student to pose as a stripper for a sting operation. The father of the woman whose identity was used (Hailey Dawson), and state legislators are upset that police are engaging in identity theft rather than enforcing Ohio's identity theft law.
The student stripper, Michelle Szuhay (show above), was paid $100 a night to strip at the Total Xposure strip bar in Troy, Ohio. Undercover agents posing as patrons watched her Szuhay's performances while looking for violations of liquor laws at the same time. The bar was ultimately closed, even though the undercover operation only revealed misdemeanor charges.
According to reports, Szuhay eventually became a little too friendly with the Total Xposure staff. Prosecutors charged her with perjury and obstruction of justice in the case. The charges were dropped, but prosecutors say they will be refilled.

Nice...violating identity rights to try & bust a strip club. They could have gotten a cuter college intern to do their dirty work as well IMHO.
