LINCOLN PARK — A legend in the adult entertainment business is coming to town this month to celebrate the grand opening of a strip club bearing his name.
Renowned pornographer Larry Flynt, 67, will attend the two-day event, Jan. 29 and 30, at the Larry Flynt Hustler Club, 980 John A. Papalas Drive.
Full details of the event haven't yet been announced. It's unknown whether club-goers will get to personally meet the man who has had to defend himself against a slew of obscenity charges over the past several decades.
“His plan is to spend a few hours each day at the club,†said Peter Joelson, club attorney and spokesman. “Because of his health, we have no set schedule for his availability.â€
Flynt's California-based business, Flynt Management Group, released this statement:
“The Hustler empire that he created is known throughout the world and his company is No. 1 in producing adult entertainment,†it reads.
“As important to Mr. Flynt and as famous is his defense of First Amendment rights, which is also world-renowned. He has always maintained that, if need be, he would defend with his life the rights of both himself and all Americans under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.â€
The $7 million club opened Dec. 8 after a long legal battle with the city.
Attendance has been steady, Joelson said. The club opened immediately after a judge cleared the way, but always had planned a larger grand opening down the road.
The club is hoping also to cash in on the upcoming North American International Auto Show, set for Monday through Jan. 24 at Cobo Center in Detroit, by offering free admission to anyone with a ticket stub or an ID badge.

You can count me out -------give me the good old places in town and I will always have a smile on my face!!!
I was talking with a friend of mine in LE and he told me that they are already really following up on the place ---would not be surprised if the first bust might even come during Larry's visit!
