I made a quick visit to a SC on the way home today and the door girl said it was early enough that they were not charging cover yet but asked if I would like to donate to support breast cancer awareness? I would be curious to know if any other SCs are doing fundraising like this and how much of that money actually makes it to the charities.
October is breast cancer awareness

Jump to latestThe local grocery store cut the per-slice cost of their pizza last Friday from $1.99 to $1. I reached into my pocket to presumably pay the sales tax and the clerk said there wasn't any. Huh? That's when she told me about the donation to Breast Cancer going on. So the pizza was free and the dollar went to a donation. Then the clerk said there were special signs announcing the deal, only they were laying on the tabletop behind the display cases. It was 1:30 in the afternoon and she hadn't hung the signs yet. Don't know how much they raised, but that was a pretty weak effort.
ttf,
Trust me, I would not be surprised at all. When any charity asks for my money, if they can't tell me on the spot what percentage actually is used for charitable work, they get nothing. Surprisingly, some actually know!
or some will lie and make it up!
I donated $5 today in the jug (which ironically had a porn star photo w/ massive tits on the jug)
Delta Air Lines has had a B767-300 painted with a large pink bra on the fuselage for a couple of years to raise awareness of breast cancer.I am sure that any money raised by this gets into the right hands. When I was working, I made monthly donations through payroll To the United Fund. I am sure that my money was going to legitimate causes. The ones that piss me off are the fund raisers for middle school cheer leader uniforms. If parents want to let their kids play, Let them pay for the uniforms.
my breast awareness is very high.
One club that I go to regularly puts out a calendar every year, and I'm told the proceeds go toward breast cancer research.
shadow,
I quit giving to the United Way years ago when they decided alcoholism and drug abuse were diseases!
I only donate for the cheerleader uniforms if they model them first. The only donations I make are for school related functions.

I havn't seen many collection jars in the SC. I did some consulting for a Charitable Foundation about 10 tears ago. You would be suprised how little goes to the actual charity after overhead and expenses.
