What this website doesn’t seem to reveal is that in the Dominican Republic, a car wash is a strip club.

When you visit the strip club, you’ll soon realize that very few residents own a car. Those that do, cherish them and tend to clean them frequently. The main transportation is MoPeds. Even Uber drivers use MoPeds.

So when you are down there, don’t ask around for a strip club, just ask for a car wash. Most carwashes have a stripper pole, disco lights, DJ with Caribbean tropical rap music, a makeshift bar, lawn chair seats and girls dancing everywhere - all while your car gets washed for just a few dollars!

I’ve asked numerous people down there and the story that is the most consistent of where this comes from is that the men want to have an alibi, so saying they went to get their car washed and returning home with a clean car is a valid alibi. Over the decades it’s become quite the hang out spot for upper class men to socialize, have a beer, and enjoy pretty women.

The best part of it all is the free transportation to and from the club for the dancers is almost always on a super fast crotch rocket motorcycle. During the early hours of the evening, you will hear the driver shifting through the gears as his exhaust pipe echoes in the distance. As it gets louder and louder, he’s getting closer and closer - with an arrival of a scantily clad Latina beauty riding on the back of it. One by one, these girls arrive to the party.

Look for these places behind brand name car washes. Easy to spot at nighttime because of the disco lights shining through the windows of an upscale one, or from under the tent of a low budget one.

PS no need to bring a car, or get a wash, to enjoy the fun times!
