I dropped into the Five last...
I dropped into the Five last night with some friends, my first visit in a couple of years. The cover was $10 and they were checking all IDs. This isn't a large club and it was fairly crowded, but we managed to get seats together at the stage. Drink service was painfully slow, but I think they only had one waitress working so I can't put the blame on her. The DJ was talkative and annoyingly so. There were only four or five stage dancers and well over a dozen VIP dancers working, the stage dancers ranged from 5-7 and the VIP dancers ranged from 5-10, although there were only a few in the higher range.
Unlike any other clubs in Vancouver proper and most in the area code, the Five specifically offers lapdances, as opposed to VIP (read Air) dances, and the girls were pretty direct about offering high contact. They can get away with this because the private dance area is upstairs and reached through an outside staircase, making it legally a seperate venue where there is no alcohol allowed or served and thus getting around BC's Victorian era liquor/cabaret laws. Because I was on the wrong side of payday I decided to skip getting any lapdances before I got there, but there were at least a few girls who looked like they could've done some serious damage to my wallet if I'd been soloing or if I'd had a few more drinks and my resistance had been lower. However, they all took a "No Thanks" without any flack but some were more persistent than others. A good lapper could have added another point or two to my rating of this club, but I'm not going to give them that on the benefit of the doubt.
