Return Visit to The Church — Tuesday Evening, Not What It Used to Be
Stopped in around 7:30pm on a Tuesday, my first visit back since last year. I usually go Thursday or Friday, so I wasn't sure what to expect from a weeknight — turns out, not much.
The parking lot was noticeably sparse right away, which should've been my first clue. Cover was $20, which felt steep given how little was going on inside. Standard metal detector at the door (typical for Houston venues). Layout is the same as I remembered: main stage dead center as you walk in, two bars flanking it at floor level, and two smaller satellite stages near each bar — three stages total downstairs. Upstairs has a second bar open to everyone, plus the entrance to the VIP "sanctuary" area. I've never been up there or held a membership, so I can't speak to that side of things.
Grabbed a Modelo for $10 and posted up near one of the side stages. There were maybe 3-5 dancers on the floor the entire time I was there, and none of them were actually on stage when I arrived — just a quiet, low-energy room. I remember this place packed on early weeknights back in the day, full of business travelers, real buzz to it. Tuesday now feels like a ghost town by comparison.
