Flight Club is a DTW area institution, worthy of a pilgrimage by any monger seeking to explore the top high mileage clubs in the US. It is arguably the most upscale and well-appointed club in the DTW area. Based on my limited experience it is not the best club in the area for talent, that honor goes to Landing Strip nearby.

I have a client in Detroit, and my team needed someone to make a last minute visit to Detroit for a Friday meeting. I happily volunteered for the assignment, and booked my flights so that I would have Friday night, and a long Saturday afternoon to enjoy the legendary DTW scene. I spent Friday night at Landing Strip, which I'll cover in a separate review.

I found myself at Flight Club at 1 PM on a Saturday. According to their website, they open at 1 PM on Saturdays, according to TUSCL it's 2 PM. The truth is somewhere in the middle. The doors do open at 1 PM Saturday but the first shift of dancers doesn't arrive until 2 PM. After the doorman told me there would be no dancers for an hour, I considered diverting to Landing Strip, which allegedly opens at 11:30 AM on Saturdays. However, Lyft and Uber in the DTW area are inconsistent and slow, and I figured by the time I made it to LS, it would be close to 2 PM anyway. So I rode it out for an hour nursing a beer, reading the news on my phone, and watching NCAAW games on the big TVs. I had spent the previous hour and a half at a McDonald's nursing a coffee (checkout at my hotel was at 11 AM), and this inconvenient hours long wait to see some ladies forced me to ponder some annoying existential questions. Such as, "Am I really enjoying this hobby or am I doing this compulsively?"
