A Slow Wednesday Night At Showcase
This review is from a recent Wednesday. As others have noted, Showcase is a little off the beaten track. I arrived around 10:15 and was able to park inside the fenced-in lot. I normally don’t club here on a weeknight, so I wasn’t certain what to expect in terms of parking availability. There is a frequent security presence in the lot. The surrounding neighborhood is not sketchy. So, if you did have to park elsewhere it shouldn’t be a problem. The security guard inside the entrance motioned me in the direction of the bar in the rear to pay the $20 cover. I think this is the procedure Monday-Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, you pay at a booth and then get buzzed in. Friday and Saturday cover is $30. The club opens at 9:00 Monday-Saturday and is closed on Sunday. Previously on Friday and Saturday the cover was $20 if you arrived prior to 9:30. That is no longer the case. Sodas, Red Bull and water are available at the bar for $5 each. Showcase is BYOB. You pay $5 for a cup and go out to the parking lot to fill it up with your beverage of choice. Some people drink in the parking lot. Some bring their drinks back into the club. The physical appearance of the club is basically unchanged since before the pandemic. One exception is the men’s room is now painted blue. The door is still the same. It is missing a large chunk in the bottom. There was soap in the men’s room on this evening, which didn’t use to happen. Towels are on the bar. The other exception is the conversion of the communal LD area to 3 private dance areas.
There were probably 8 dancers and 14 customers on this evening. It can get pretty crowded on the weekend. The dancers were a mix of Latina, AA and 1 Caucasian. And most were in the medium range. No rail thin dancers and no BBWs either. The crowd was a mix of Latinos, AA, Caucasian and Indian or other South Asian. The stage was lightly used this evening. On the weekends there is a steady use of the stage. The best bargain at Showcase is to sit in the chairs along pervert’s row. The dancers will come down from the stage and grind on you for tips. In the absence of the LD area, it’s my understanding that they are now allowing top-on chair dances for $20 per song in the general seating area. I didn’t see anyone partaking of this. If you want a private dance, you pay a $20 fee at the bar for each different dancer you go back with. If you return with the same dancer later the $20 is waived. Dance prices are $30 per song topless and $40 per song naked. I assume you could negotiate a $20 top-on dance in the back. I have never tried that. There are, I think, 7-8 different private dance areas, with varying levels of privacy. The dancers all seem to have their favorite rooms. My personal preference is the one immediately behind the ATMs. On this evening I got a couple of dances with the one Latina dancer with whom I can communicate on a basic level. Most of the Latinas speak next to no English. This can be a problem if you’re like I am and speak minimal Spanish. You can get taken advantage of in terms of number of songs or price per song. I have gotten dances from her before, so I trust her. Between my limited Spanish and her English, we made it work. Her name is the same as a recent First Daughter. I also got some dances from the lone Caucasian dancer. Her name is the same as one of the actresses on This Is Us. Both have been there since well before the pandemic. Both give very sensual dances. Note that at least some of the songs appear to be cut short. That is a change from the old days. And it stinks since you’re paying $40 per song. Also, there is no longer the sound effect between the songs denoting when the next song was starting. If you are looking for extras, I don’t think this is your place, other recent reviews notwithstanding. There are cameras in the rooms.
Most of the dancers from the old days seem to have moved on. This, coupled with the closure of Fuego, has kind of changed the vibe at Showcase. The music skews heavily to Spanish now, which is in keeping with the crowd and the dancers. I miss some of the dancers from the old days. Showcase does seem to fill a niche however. I will continue coming back. But it is a pricey evening.
