Trying Old Toots During the Day for Once
Intro
Having gone to Toots for over a decade, I decided to finally try an early afternoon to see if Old Toots had a better offering than the stale and mercenary evening lineup. Post pandemic, this club I feel has taken a severe hit from its glory days over a decade ago. Yes, you can still spot some of the same talent from a decade ago on weekend late nights, but as the saying goes….their time has come and gone and locals argue the same about the club. As a vet club goer and also advancing in age myself, I no longer like going to Toots on a Saturday late night and having to face the throngs of humanity and tourists looking to make a spectacle. Also, in the old days you could go on a late night weekend and easily get a table without getting bounced by floor managers saying you have pay over $200 just to secure a table in the front stage areas. If you don’t pony up for the new “table tax”, then you are basically relegated to trying snatch a stool at either of the two main bars in the lower floor. You can pay to go upstairs to the “billionaires row” but again, you have to pay that Toots club tax to be an “exclusive” PL. I pass on that and hang out in the peanut gallery with the commoners. So, I decided to do what I have never ever done at Toots, I went to Toots during the daytime. Arrived a shade after 4 pm and it was just so weird to be walking into Toots when the sun was shining bright. Entrance was free and simply walked in after having my ID checked by the door man. I did see that Toots had adopted a new tiered pricing system depending on the hour you arrive. Here are my notes on going to Toots during the day hours.
