Escaping the winter cold

I drove out to Sugar’s on a bitterly cold winter evening midweek. It’s an hour’s drive for me and I often talk myself out of going because the place is so unpredictable. There’s nothing like going all that way only to sit in a dead club sucking a beer and fending off unattractive dancers. The club itself is in a crummy two-story renovated house and the interior is pretty shoddy. Still, some nights they have surprisingly pretty dancers and many of them are black (my preference). You just never know, that’s what keeps me going there.

I arrived around 8:00. The parking lot looked pretty light of cars, probably due to the cold. There was no cover charge. Entering the club is an experience because the door opens immediately into the large bar area and everyone gathered there always looks up to check who just came in. If you’re not ready for it you can feel kind of exposed. Anyway, the room was warm and there were 5-8 dancers sitting around talking to maybe 10-15 hunched over customers. Luckily for me, a good number of the dancers were black, shapely, and pretty. I bought a beer and found a place at the bar.

The club is laid out in two large rooms. One contains the large bar against one wall and arcade-style game machines and the bathrooms against the other wall. The next room has a low dance stage with two poles and a small area with padded seating for lap dances. There’s a hallway behind the stage that leads to a tiny VIP room. Everything feels cheap and shoddy.
