Classier place, but fewer performers
With covid coming down sharply this spring, thought it’d be a good time to check this place out again. Their website technically shows who’s dancing, and saw some classic atf’s. Market st somehow felt safer and more dangerous than before. More regular theaters and retail stores nearby now, but also a lot more sketchier looks. Front desk looks similar to before, and clean bathrooms as before. As others mentioned, the theatre seats are replaced by a lounge. It’s controversial, but I liked the chill layout of the lounge. It might have been the best part. Sadly I barely saw anyone on the roster actually come out. This was around 11pm on Saturday, which used to be prime time before. There were maybe 4 or 5 girls that circulated. With so few patrons in the lounge, only 1 or 2 hung out to chat. It’s an odd thing to say, but the relaxing vibe of the new lounge area was the best part of the visit. The stage is pretty much same as before, but the DJ desk is now closer to the stage. It Just seemed nothing like the old days in terms of performers. I wouldn’t have minded, except that the roster showed names of so many classic performers. I want to hope that maybe there were more performers in the back and the roster was not misleading. There are sketchier places in the city, so it’s nice to see this place come back in a classy and chill way. Maybe the performer situation will improve over time, but it was literally the first time I ever I left without any dances. It’s just something to set expectations around, since this used to be a very high energy place, especially on Saturday nights, and it was almost impossible not to come out not having spent time with many performers. It might be more of a gamble now.
