This place can be addictive

Went to this place in November of 2020 and could not wait to get back. Flew into San Diego Airport last Friday. Took the 992 MTS bus to San Ysidro Trolley. Bus took about 15-20 minutes. Took Trolley to the border. Trolley ride was about 30 minutes. Trolley and bus ride was $5.00 total. Crossed into Mexico through Ped East I believe. It is the one directly across from the last stop on the trolley.

Crossing into Mexico was much different from the November. I brought my passport and a 7 day tourist card with me to prevent any issues from arising. Like November, there is a foreigner line and a line for Mexican nationals. There was no one in the foreigner line. I went to the front of the line and noticed there was no one paying attention. The line for Mexicans was moving without anyone being stopped by the guards. I waited in the foreigner line for about 10-15 seconds and was ignored. I got annoyed and got in the line for Mexicans expecting to be stopped. Amazingly, I walked through without having to show my passport or my tourist card. The guards did not even look at me. They were just standing there. I put my bag through the x-ray machine and I was in Mexico within a couple minutes of landing at the border. The shuttle for hotel cascadas was not there so I took a taxi to the hotel for $5.

If you are coming from out of town, always reserve a room at the hotel if you plan to hang out in Zona Norte. It makes everything so much easier. When you check in, the offer you a VIP card. The card costs $60 and you get 20% off your room on weekends. Plus, you get a free drink at the club. Personally, I do not think it is worth it. If you reserve your room online, the discount on the room does not offset the cost of the card. Plus, most drinks at the bar are around $5. It does not add up when you do the math. Make sure you bring condoms and earplugs if you are staying overnight. Condoms for obvious reasons, but there are street bands that play until 2-3 am. It would be impossible to sleep without earplugs.
