First Time Out Since Before The Pandemic
My 2 go to clubs in Prince George’s County are still on a forced COVID hiatus. I saw on FB that Mitzi’s had reopened, so I decided to trek out to Funkstown which is slightly over an hour from where I live. In case anyone wonders, Mitzi was the owner of this establishment, as well as the Turkish restaurant next door. She passed away in May of this year. This review is from Oct. 17.
Mitzi’s is on Alternate 40 and is fairly easy to find off the Interstate or US 40. They have a large parking lot. I don’t know where you’d park if the lot was full. The sign said ring bell (door was slightly ajar). The other sign said wear masks (when I arrived no one seemed to be). Mitzi’s cover is a reasonable $10. The person checking IDs and collecting the cover doubled as the bartender. You BYOB and then pay $2.00 each when you want one. Bottled water is for sale for a reasonable $2.00. I tipped $1.00 for each beer.
I took a seat at the bar because I was too tall for the low chairs and tables in the main seating area. I was promptly joined at the bar by a dancer whose name is similar to that of an early 2000s kid’s cartoon heroine. To my surprise she didn’t lead with “Wanna dance?”. She asked if I wanted to shoot pool. I said yes. Pool table is $1.00 per game. It was around 9:00 and the place was not too crowded so we were able to talk and shoot at the same time.
