I arrived at 19:00 on a Saturday night. There was no cover charge to enter. A goth bartender was slinging drinks behind a curved bar on the north wall. Sincweisers were $5, served in a twelve ounce can. Cans of soda were $4. The entertainers sat at the bar and did not take the stage until a half dozen patrons had arrived. The clientele was a mix of locals and Midwesterners vacationing up North. The only food offerings available were snacks like bags of nuts, bags of chips, and sticks of Jack Links for $1.75 and candy bars for $1.50. Music is played off of an AMI jukebox. Dancers do three song sets on a stage with a single pole. A runway protrudes from the right side that is one step lower than the stage.

Dancers must commit to working a Wednesday through Saturday schedule if they want to work at the Gold Nugget, so you will generally see the same half dozen dancers every night of a given week with the possibility of an extra dancer added on for the weekend. I believe dancers live on the premises during their four day tours of duty. Dancers tend to be older at the Gold Nugget. About two-thirds of Saturday’s queue were in their 40’s or late 30’s. Contact at the stage was one-way and consisted mostly of Stevies. Like many clubs in Wisconsin, Gold Nugget had the dreaded tip walk once a dancer finished up on stage. A George Washington is usually sufficient to keep them walking along.
