Club is Open for Business. Limited But Put its Best Foot Forward.
Rick's reopened for night shift on Friday, May 22nd. A lot of places in Texas reopened on Friday, but San Antonio didn't really announce it that widely so word wasn't really getting around. Got there early into the night shift, but they'd been open for a few hours. The tables on the main floor where a lot more spread out, going all the way back to the rear wall opposite the main stage. That's actually the front wall of the club, but if you're inside it'll make sense. In the VIP area (a raised section off to the right when you walk in and up a few stairs) the tables were not as spread out, but, they had some blocked to keep customers spaced apart. They had around 10 dancers, but I wasn't looking that closely. No side stages going, just main stage and there were some gaps in between the girls going up. The girls were hustling and every one of them was with customers, so it wasn't a big deal. Dancers could sit with customers are tables, and drink prices were the regular night prices. Two alcoholic drinks were running somewhere around $18-20 for middle of the road brands.
When you walk in there isn't a temperature check, but they might give you a once over for "security". Customers do not need to wear masks, but some were. Managers and staff all had masks on. Dancers were also supposed to wear masks, and they were in masks while dancing on stage as well. Bar was off limits. The club was pretty stuffy. Not sure if the air conditioning was having a problem or if it wasn't up very high, but it was definitely warm. Management was friendly and helping with just about everything including drinks. Wasn't hassled and treated well. There were something like private dances available here, but masks were worn and there was some distancing done to be compliant with the local reopening codes. Customers will just need to decide if the current set up works for them. Anything resembling a dance was happening in the VIP area and cabanas and not on the main floor. Their top talent wasn’t there, but they had some nice looking girls dressed and dancing.
I'd check it out again on a different night, but the club's not going to be the same place it's been for a little while. The state of Texas is taking a phased approach to reopening, so in two weeks the current setup might get relaxed in the early part of June. Or it might not. The club is doing what it can to get open and stay open, and this is what it looked on Night 1.
