Speak French or Prepare to be Ignored
This is the only club I didn’t really feel comfortable in at all while in Montreal. I’d imagine this would have been the scenario if I had pressed further into Laval than Pink Paradise (R.I.P.) and Crazy Moon. This customer doesn’t speak any French, and didn’t feel the need to antagonize the locals. I got tagged with a higher cover charge at Kingdom Cabaret for being an English speaker, but until I got here it didn’t seem like a liability.
Club Las Vegas is in a warehouse district, and is on the second floor of a nondescript looking brick building. Parking was no problem and there wasn’t a valet. Some guy (who it turns out worked at the club) started talking to me about how fucked up he felt, and I just looked at him and kept walking. More problems get caused by trying to humor drunks and having them take it the wrong way. Better to ignore them and get momentary heat they’ll forget about 30 seconds later. The doorman charged me $5 and told me way more information that I wanted to know before I walked in. He spoke English, but seemed like the only one who would bother doing so.
The bar is right across from the door, and I can’t tell you about drink prices because the bartenders ignored me. High stage in the center of the club. Staggered poles. Very flashy decorations. DJ spoke almost exclusively in French, which was different than the other clubs I saw. I mostly avoided the Laval clubs because my French is beyond rusty. There was a blonde dancer I was trying angle a moment with, but there was a customer who was being really aggressive where she was concerned and very loudly talking shit to everyone around him in French. He looked vaguely familiar and was built like a fighter, so that was no go.
