Not Your Usual St. James Religious Experience

I’ve read here that the St. James is sometimes referred to as “the Church”, perhaps because it sometimes leaves one with a religious experience. I’ve had a few of those over the 20 some years I’ve been visiting. Unfortunately a recent visit on a Sunday evening left more of a traditional church experience rather than a St. James spiritual journey. When I arrived about 9pm the club was nearly empty with a few guys seated at each of the two bar areas and only one or two patrons at the vast spread of empty tables. I took a seat on the floor near the main stage in the alley leading to the dressing room. This area gives a good view of the stage and is also right in the path of girls going in and out of the back stage area. On past visits this has worked as a great way to get the attention of a girl you are interested in. On this Sunday night the talent was below average for the St. James and I didn’t see any girls who really caught my attention. Each stage appearance was separated by a few songs with no dancers. Definitely a big difference from busy nights when the girls rotate from the main stage to the two satellite stages and the upstairs is busy with circulation. I’ll try again the next time I’m in Houston, but this night was a sleeper.
