Not a Dump. But Not Worth a $12 Cover Charge.
This club is in a nondescript building in an industrial part of town. I almost drove by it even with a GPS. The parking lot is small, but it was mid-afternoon on a Friday so there was plenty of parking. I walked into the place and it was pitch black, so I hung back by the entrance to let my eyes adjust and get the lay of the land. I’d just come from Bourbon Street Circus and thought that club was a little too dark, but this place was even darker. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon. Saw a black dancer on stage doing her thing, and a couple of other dancers on the main floor who also looked black. Not saying it’s a black club, but that’s what I saw. Main stage with blue lit trim was off against the left wall when entering the club, and the dancer performing was about a 6 or 7. The vibe was meh. Standard round strip club mini tables and armchairs.
This was my last stop (of 5 clubs) on a quick run through Phoenix, so I figured I’d just do a quick walk through and check out some of the talent. I went up to the guy manning the door, and he said it was $12 to get in. $12? On a dayshift? When no other club I saw that day charged anything? I repeated what he’d asked for as a question, and he repeated $12 with a straight face completely free of irony. There was no separated lobby area, so the full club is visible from the entry. Since I was little closer to the main floor and my eyes had adjusted, I took another look out at the girls and none of them caught my attention. Plus the dancers were all with the handful of customers, and I didn’t have much time to discover any redeeming qualities.
I told the door guy thanks anyway and walked back out. Didn’t bother to ask if the ridiculous daytime cover charge included a free drink or something. Having read a few of the reviews now on Blue Moon Lounge, I could have just skipped it altogether. Won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend. As much as I’d like to provide intricate details about the all the clubs I see, when I’ve got about three hours to club unless something interesting is happening I’m going to walk. Saw five clubs in Phoenix this trip: HiLiter, Bourbon Street Circus, Bandaids, Scores, and this place. BML and Scores were both walkouts in the first five minutes.
