Back in the Day...

I've known about Gallaghers 2000 for years. It's got to be one of the oldest clubs in the area. I've always been curious but never sure where it was and if I would ever be close to it. Well, my pleasant surprise when I discovered an event I was attending was near the club. It's not typical of me to go put in NYC, my home town, but I couldn't pass the opportunity to finally go here.

It was an easy walk from my event and would be an easy walk to the 7 train. Easy to find, green painted building with a green awning. It was already close to 10pm so I didn't intend to stay long. A $10 cover after I had to empty your pockets, pass through a metal detector and then get a pat down. They weren't kidding. Had to check my coat and hat at the front. Going through the doors, there's a large stage and seating area to the right, which wasn't being used tonight. The bar to the left, bathrooms further left. The bar area was a throwback what with a second stage inside the bar area where 4 girls "danced." It reminded me of the old places in Time Sq and 42nd street, before the Guiliani and the Mouse. After the girls performed, they walked the area inside the bar for tips, pretty much expecting at least a buck. Wasn't dead this Thursday but it was light. I had no trouble getting a seat at the bar. There was seating and a lap dance area down a few steps further right of the bar. Too bright. Stairs at the back lead up to the private rooms to the right, another darker LD area to the left.

Dance prices the typical $20, I was quoted $200 for a half hour in a room. I don't know if the girl was offering a deal or not. I was going to use a credit card for drinks at the bar but there is a $35 dollar min. charge. As I hadn't intended to stay long I opted to pay cash, in the end I spent $33. A Dewars, for $13, A Jamisons for a girl (prob also $13) and a Red Bull (probably $7).
