No Pony Rides.
All of the alcohol bars were shutting down now as it was going past 3 AM when we were making our way to Pink Pony from 2001 Odyssey. Unfortunately, the whole experience at that club was not what I was expecting in terms of how crowded it got, so just maybe it would be a better experience here.
The building itself sits on MLK BLVD off from Dale Mabry and from the outside looks pretty massive… and pink of course. Two bouncers lounged in their chairs outside of the entrance door while we drove past to find someplace to park. The parking lot itself was decently filled, but there were some convenient spots behind the building that we found ourselves settling for before we checked to make sure we had our personal belongings together and getting out to head towards the club. The area itself is pretty quiet lit well enough so that we didn’t have to worry about our safety walking the distance that we did to get to the entrance. One of the bouncers was holding a handheld detector but didn’t bother getting up to have us wait to get checked. Both simply greeted us and told us to go right ahead in. So we did.
We stepped through the doors into a corridor where the front desk is where the doorman behind it asked for $20 from each of us for the cover charge. We paid him, asked for some $1s in change, and make our way through the next set of doors to go in the main floor. The first thing I notice is that this club is pretty big… and empty. I definitely appreciate the extra wiggle room, but the mostly full parking lot had me thinking that there would be decent business in here. The juice bar is to your right as you enter in, and that is where most of the patrons were sitting at. In front of us and on a lower floor was where the main stage and seating area was. A small group of people hung out by the stage to watch the girls up close, and there were three other small groups of guys spread out on the rest of the floor (only one of which had a girl entertaining them). The stage itself is long and has a pole on each end to accommodate multiple dancers in a rotation, but there was only one dancer going up at a time when we came in. One thing that I didn’t notice until later was that there was a smaller satellite stage placed behind the bar on the upper floor. VIPs and private dances take place in a room on the far left side of the club with the illuminated words “ F R I C T I O N “ sitting above the entrance. As far as the interior goes, the club is gorgeous and was probably the same size as the franchise located in Atlanta, but I actually thought that this one was prettier.
