Reminds Me of Juarez In The Late '60s
I'd often wondered what it was about Chicas that kept me coming back to it. Then it recently occurred to me that it reminded me of my old Army days in El Paso, which is just across from Juarez. Ft. Bliss at the time had over 25,000 troops stationed there, and Juarez was just the leisure location we needed. Now, Chicas is not as much as 1% of what Juarez was at the time, but there are similarities that jog the old memory bank. Latino music, Latino décor, Latino dancers, etc. You can't conceptualize what "wide open" meant until you visited Juarez at the time. My favorite club was "The Cave" and among other things they had live sex once per hour in the evening, with audience participation. The dog face got some for free in return for performing in front of 50-75 patrons, and they passed the hat for the girl. The only thing the police asked was that you behave yourself and not cause them problems. For the army, no place was off-limits, but the medical section put out a bulletin at the first of the money outlining how many cases of (S) and (G) there had been reported per each establishment the previous month.
As I said, Chicas today is not as much as 1% of what Juarez was in the "old days." However the overall ambience of Chicas does bring back my army days in El Paso. Today, at mid afternoon there were 4-5 customers and 4 dancers. I thought they were all presentable or more, the requisite bottle of water was $5, or for other forms of libation the price was a little more. No entry fee in the afternoon. Remembering that there were 4-5 customers and 4 girls, things were light at mid-afternoon. An attractive Latino blonde invited me over to one of the little booths on the north side of the building, and we got acquainted at the rate of $10 per song. After 4 dances, I saw the wisdom of adjourning to the VIP room, where my requested 4 dances (for $100) extended itself out to 6. She tried to teach me Latin, and I tried to teach her English. Only moderate success, however there were other lessons to be learned. 1). The guy with the clipboard was nowhere to be seen. 2). the corpulent manager was declared to be "no es problemo.." 4). Sometimes it isn't necessary for you both to speak the same lingo in order to have a good conversation. 5). The entry fee paid to the house for VIP admission is $25. I still wonder if, after you pay the VIP fee once with girl #1, is there a second VIP fee for any girl #2. Unfortunately I ran out of money before solving that problem. I don't know if a good time was had by all, but a good time was had by me. I'll be back as soon as I can scrape up some more money.
