A Donkey Time
The El Burro Bar is not far from the south entrance of the Hong Kong Club. My friend 100ber, who is more adventurous than me, said he liked this place because real local people frequented it. It certainly was not a tourist spot. El Burro is a dive bar with old, beat-up furniture. The customers were middle-aged or older Mexicans of the lower class. It reminded me of the bar where Mario Vargas Llosa set his novel "Conversation in the Cathedral."
I would like to describe the strippers in this club, but I can't because I did not see any. Maybe they show up later in the evening. A low dance floor with a lone stripper pole in the center was the only sign that strippers might sometimes dance here. Some middle-aged couples slow danced on this dance floor. Customers drank at the bar.
The music was Mexican music and it was very loud. It was so loud that it hurt my ears.
