Visited: Thursday Evening

Dropped by Gold Club after the shift change on a Thursday night. The place was surprisingly busy and had a larger number of dancers than my previous visits. The most surprising thing, though, was the remodel; well, that and finding what I believe is the worst well whiskey in Portland. More on that later.

I was charged a dollar cover when I walked in. First thing I noticed was that the place has been or is being remodeled. The big central stage with two poles is gone as is the former minor stage. There's now one smaller stage with a single pole next to the private dance area, a second stage with no pole (though I was told one will be installed) back by the DJ booth and a small stage and pole near the front of the club for minors to use. The main stage now has a six inch tall barrier between the drink rail and the dancers, so there's now less of a chance your drink will be kicked over. One of the girls told me they did the remodel last weekend. There's still a hole in the carpet where the old main stage was. Regular chairs surround the main stage with comfy lounge chairs circling the stage about five feet back.

I was charged four bucks for a well whiskey and coke that tasted exactly like cough syrup. Seriously. The taste was so bad I had the bartender remake the first one, thinking she had made a mistake the first time. Nope. Cough syrup again. Stay away from Gold Club's well whiskey.
