I agree with everyone about the dancers, so let me tell you about the facility. Bourbon Street Circus is a fairly large club. It’s clean and pretty, but not opulent or pretentious like some upscale Phoenix clubs. It has three stages, and the lighting is a little brighter than in most clubs. Roving spotlights occasionally pan the tables, kind of like in a prison yard at night.
The main stage has a mirror behind it and columns of three closed circuit TVs on each side of the mirror. The wall opposite the stage is mirrored, and, if you are sitting in the right place, whatever that mirror picks up is reflected in the mirror behind the dancer. You see whatever the TVs show, backed up by an infinite number of live pictures in the reflections of the TVs. Sometimes the TV shows a kaleidoscope pattern, which multiplies and spreads itself behind the dancer. On my last visit it was showing videos of other dancers. OK, so it isn’t particularly erotic, but at least it’s different.
The floor is for the ten dollar dances. VIP is in the back, in an area that is exposed but still hard to see into. Although it isn’t much of a VIP, dances up there are only two bucks more than on the floor. The sound system is good, but during my last visit the DJ had one of those old-fashioned top 40 AM radio gob stopper voices that I find particularly irritating.
For TV watchers, there is a monster screen projection TV on each side of the stage, and modern plasma or LCD sets behind the bar and on the far wall opposite the bar. The other unique characteristic of the place, which has been mentioned in a previous post, is free popcorn.
Saturday afternoon’s women were young, trim, and a 60/40 mix of White and Latina dancers plus one Black sweetie. All in all, this is a nice place to spend some time.
