Still underwhelmed by the lack of talent
Arrived at Sammy's at 9:30 pm for a quick drink to check out what I expected to be a marginal talent pool. It had been a few years since my last minute and I was hoping that the summed tourist season would draw a better class of performer to this club. The club bills itself as the home of the best showgirls in the south...only if you are a blind man. The club itself is very nice although I still have better memories of the old Sammy's on the Island from 20 years ago but time moves on. Unfortunately some of these dancers never got that memo but that is another story. After getting my $4.50 Budweiser at the bar I moved to a table near the main stage to view the action here and over on the secondary stage. Beyond a single Asian dancer who may have worked down Hwy 98 at Club 51 ten years ago there really was not much else in the club that caught my eye this night. Several patrons took advantage of the 2 for 1 dances along the back wall near the DJ booth entrance but I really did not pay too much attention to that activity. The cutest girl in the building was working behind the counter taking the cover charge fee ($6.00) from new arrivals at the club. I stayed at Sammy's for about 45 minutes and decided I had seen enough of this club for the summer. As for the other clubs nearby the Green Frog was closed and the building had a "for sale" sign on it so I would not expect to see it open again. Club 10 across the street was open but with fewer cars in front than Sammy's had in their lot by comparison. For a late Friday night the club scene here was well below expectations even for this part of Florida. My advice - go to Atlanta or Tampa.
