Just when it seems like the folks at Silk are getting things back on track with their addition of some gaming machines, pool tables and other novelties to the already posh club, they go and do something stupid in my book. Visited late on a recent Sunday and was asked if I was a local. Apparently if you live in Juneau you get free admission. If not, like me, you pay a 5 dollar cover. So I did, grabbed a drink and sat at the bar with three or four other people and turned around to watch the brunette heavily tattooed dancer on stage. She stayed up there a surprising amount of time and when she was done the DJ announced a second dancer who was doing a five song set. Turns out they were the only 2 dancers on that night. I tipped a couple dollars at the stage to each and took 1 back for a single dance. She was friendly, but just not my favorite type so I headed out. I can't help but think that these boneheaded moves like the local no cover deal actually keep more folks from travelling to the already out of the way club. I wish they'd bring back the every night 2 for 1 dance specials that they discontinued a while back. Its a simple deal that actually gives reason for people to travel a distance that costs the club nothing. Oh well. I just hope Juneau comes back to it's former greatness soon and rewards us customers for actually showing up. It could be such a great place.
