I hadn't been to the St James for almost a year, because it's a long drive for me.

I stopped by on a Saturday night, which by prior experience is not a good time to go. Many of the best dancers do not work on Saturday, because there are too many young guys and not enough high rollers.

For the customer, it also tends to be a poor experience because the club is too crowded and there are not enough dancers to go around to keep everybody happy. On the other hand, the St.James stage is the best in Houston, and the girls are on average quite attractive and put on a good show. So you have a lot of people come just to drink and watch.

I sat at the bar, and I didn't know any of the waitresses or dancers that night. In this club, it is difficult to have a good time if you are not familiar with somebody. This is especially true since they opened up the new top-tier VIP room. There is now the original VIP room, which costs $1000 membership, and the high level one which costs $3000 membership. Entry can be gained on a nightly basis in the first VIP room when buying a $260 bottle, and in the second one by buying a $500 bottle. Now most of the better, more attractive girls, just congregate inside the VIP rooms. Even if they don't start there, soon a manager or waitress will corral them to go one of the VIP rooms. So on a Saturday night, this leaves about a half dozen girls to circulate in a big club with over 200 customers in the non-VIP areas. You can still have some fun tipping the girls on one of the two side stages, but it's generally hard to convince them to give them a dance, because most of them are spoken for.
