It's a real shame, what the Flamingo has become. What was once easily the best club in Lawrence is a shadow of its former self. My first visit back in 2001 was enough to keep me coming back as a regular for a few years. Life changes and priorities kept me away until 2010, but the club was clearly in decline then. I visited several times, the last of which was in the summer of 2011.

There are hardly any patrons here anymore, and few dancers. My last few times visiting, it was pretty common for there to only be 4 or 5 patrons in the club, and maybe slightly more women. Since hardly anyone showed up anymore, most of the good dancers moved on to other clubs.

I talked with one of the dancers for quite a while one night, and she told me that the owner had basically abandoned supporting and promoting the club. Basically, the guy is just letting the (now meager) cash roll in, and did nothing in the way of upkeep, maintenance, or promotion. They didn't do a good job "scouting" or hiring decent quality dancers either, leaving basically the bottom of the barrel girls. I'm talking girls that really don't have any business working at a strip club - older and/or fatter girls.
