I haven't been to Rachel's for...
I haven't been to Rachel's for quite some time, but this particular Monday night, just after 11:00 pm, was the slowest I have seen any club in a long while. The physical layout hasn't changed -- an island bar in the middle, a main stage in the corner at one end of the room, and a (semi-) private dance area in the room at the back. An outdoor patio is available for smokers, and a few other 'table stages' in the main room were not being used that night. In fact, the main stage was barely used during my visit.
When I arrived, there was nobody at the door (so no cover charge). Inside, two bartenders, three girls who seemed to be waitresses, and two customers were the only people I saw -- no dancers.
The bartender was friendly, and songs were playing, but while sipping my drink for 10 or 15 minutes I didn't see a single dancer. It's a good thing they have a big screen TV along the wall -- at least I could check the weather and sports news.
When I was about to give up, the DJ awoke and announced that a girl was coming to the stage. Another few songs went by, then a pretty blond started a two-song, fully-clothed walk about the stage. Without any hint of other dancers in the club, I decided to cut my losses. Maybe I just caught them on a bad night, and will have to try again. Probably not on a Monday night, though!
