Personally I definitely want and need my alone time. Principally just to think and let my thoughts wander. I, too, found this occurring more in my 50s. I'm what they refer to as an extroverted introvert. When I'm with people I feel in have to constantly "be on"; it's exhausting.
When they tell you the price of VIP, ask them how.much their tip is. They'll usually say it depends what you want. You smile and say I want everything. You can typically tell by their prices if they are extra friendly, and you can clarify from there. If they are playing coy (what do you mean by everything?) Stay away.
Worked in a building downtown on Figueroa 40 years ago. All I remember leaving at night is stepping over the drunks and homeless as I walked, or ran, to my car.
