I used to go to the club a lot but hadn't been in a couple of years. Anyone who has been here as Landing Strip or even its former identity, Pop-A-Top, pretty much has seen the place. Only slow changes have taken place over the years. Now the club is much darker than before. I'm not really sure why unless they're trying to save on electricity. I think there were five dancers there in the afternoon. At least four. Three were African American and at least one was white. Dancer attractiveness has dropped from pretty high to pretty average. Same layout as it's been for years: stage at far end of club, private dance area on old shower stage. Private dance area seems less private than a couple of years ago. A second long stage in the middle of the club wasn't used when I was there but they used to use it only after about 4pm or so. Two of the dancers hit me up for a private dance at $20 per song. One was polite. One was downright pushy. I didn't take either of them up on it. The one dancer did a couple of privates with two patrons and it didn't look particularly good and certainly not very private. The first patron stopped after one dance; I'm not sure about the second. One of the dancers I recognized from Chantilly Lace in their heyday. She was one of the most popular girls at the old full service club. Another dancer I recognized as a fuller experience dancer who had recently been at Club Skinn up the street. Plus, the back "Oh! Zone" building was lit up and had a neon "OPEN" sign. Combine these facts and I wouldn't be surprised if a high level of experience is still available. I didn't see anyone coming or going from the back building while I was there so I don't know if the dancers are allowed to take customers back or not. The used to do that, but then they couldn't. Now it really wasn't clear to me but it probably would have been obvious if I had stayed longer. Since the dancers were only hitting me up for private dances in the club, they may not do it anymore. Or they're just screening the customers more. This is definitely NOT the cheery bar to drop in and watch a few dancers that it used to be. Dark, dreary, and somewhat dead. There were four or five other patrons but none of them seemed very happy like the old days. So I'd call it somewhat depressing version of what it used to be. If the Oh! Zone is still what it was, it's probably the only place in Portland left with drop-in satisfaction for big bucks.
