Maybe I'll have better luck next time
Players was the first stop on my whirlwind tour of Detroit strip clubs. It’s a long haul from the airport so it took me almost 40 minutes to get there. I arrived a little after 4:00. Forced valet parking is $7, no cover at this time of day. However, the doorman shook my hand when I entered and asked if I wanted a booth or table. I told him I would just sit at the bar.
Players is small, but very nice. I believe one of the dancers told me its been remodeled recently, and it looks like it. The stage is in the middle of the club, slightly to the right as you walk in, the circular bar is just past the stage. The bar is made out of some kind mineral rock composite and illuminated from below. It looks very nice, and all of the furnishings look new and well kept. A beer was $4, which I assume as a happy hour price.
There were around a half-dozen older PLs hanging out at the bar and some of the booths. I counted 10 dancers, mostly white but two or three AAs, looks mostly in the 6-7 range, but there were two outliers. The first outlier was a 50ish looking dancer with a weathered looking face and big hair. She looked like a 1970s street hooker. The other was a cute early twenties spinner that had a resemblance to actress Juliette Lewis—not quite that pretty in the face, but a banging spinner body. A “2” and a “9.” I rated the big hair girl a 2 only because she seemed to have all of her teeth and limbs (although those teeth looked like they could have been dentures).
Juliette Lewis and a couple of the other girls were tied up with a talkative older PL at the bar. I could feel big hair girl tracking me as I walked to the bar and took a seat. When I scanned the room, I could see she was staring directly at me, but I tried to avoid looking at her. Of course, she came straight over anyway and asked if I wanted company, which I declined. I watched the girls doing stage sets two at a time on the two-pole stage. When Juliette Lewis went up, I tipped her and asked if she was busy. She said no and said she would come over she was done.
After she got off stage she came over, sat next to me, and chatted for a while. She said all of the other guys were regulars that came almost every day. Apparently, the girls were wondering if I was a cop since no one had seen me before. She said Detroit was really cracking down on strip clubs and there had been lots of raids, so management was kind of uptight. The inspectors were getting very strict on some of the stupid local ordinances, like not having butt covered if not on stage ($200 fine) or being topless if not on stage ($500 fine). She was reassured that I was drinking a beer. She said if I had ordered a bottle of water it would have confirmed that I was a cop. I’m pretty sure undercover cops are allowed to drink if needed to maintain their cover, but I didn’t tell her that.
After chatting for a while the topic turned of course to dances. Based on past reviews, I had apparently found one of the few girls in Players that doesn’t do extras. Or maybe she really did think I was a cop. Anyway, she had been pretty good company, and was really cute, so I asked her for a regular $25 lap dance. We went upstairs to the lap dance area, which is a row of booths separated by beaded curtains. The beads are actually steel, like ball bearings, and very heavy. She said they were supposed to coming down soon at the insistence of the city. The dance was average mileage, nothing spectacular. It was one and done and I was out of there.
Overall, this was a nice visit and the club may be worth a visit if you’re in the area, but I’m not sure it was worth the over one hour round-trip drive from the airport area. However, since Coliseum was just down the road, I decided to stop by there also before heading back. That stop was definitely worth the drive.
